1 month after Griner prisoner swap, Biden admin ‘ignores’ dying American held for 15 years

The family of an American held in the United Arab Emirates for 15 years want the Biden government to do for Zack Shahin what they did for Brittney Griner a month ago.

The family said not only was Shahin wrongly imprisoned, his condition has deteriorated rapidly as the Biden administration has turned a deaf ear to their pleas for his release.

“I feel that the fact that the United Arab Emirates helped broker the deal for Griner’s release was kind of a slap in the face to my family and I, son of the prisoner, relates FoxNews Sunday.

“He is an American citizen who has been abandoned by both the Biden administration and the State Department. No one answered our call for help, and then to see Brittney Griner getting all the attention… maybe we’re not famous enough. We’re just an ordinary American family and they completely ignored us,” he said.

In 2008, Zack Shahin was “kidnapped at gunpoint by the state of Dubai and forced onto an Emirates plane. There was no court order, no extradition, no Interpol notice of the unlawful armed abduction of an innocent American citizen by the State of Dubai, without a court order or extradition document,” the family wrote on a website where they reported the case.

The family has denied the fraud allegations that led to his imprisonment.

Though the family has been trying to free Zack Shahin for years, their efforts have been redoubled as they fear he may not live long.

Do you think Biden actually cares about Americans?

“Zach is dying… I don’t know how much longer he can hold out,” said Martin Lonergan, a former prisoner of Shahin’s. “His mental health is failing. He has recently attempted suicide several times. His conditions are so tough. It’s a wonderful amazing place for the five star hotels but down the road there’s a hell you can’t imagine.”

The British activist told FoxNews Shahin “rotten”.

“If you can imagine a man dying because he’s rotting … they cut away parts of Zack, and he dies trying to fight the infection,” he said, adding that the prison where Shahin is imprisoned and where he spent 10 months “Here you are pushed away to be forgotten.”

Speaking about Shahin’s case, he said, “I have never seen such injustice in my life.”

“Forcing the letters back and letting them sit for days and weeks while the UAE was apparently helping America negotiate the release of Brittney Griner — it’s evident that the department did not want to upset the UAE during this diplomatic process,” Lonergan said .

In his Sunday interview with Fox News, Ramy Shahin said his father’s imprisonment was “an inconvenience to the United States.”

“When they were working with the UAE and Russia to negotiate Brittney Griner’s release, I got a feeling they were like, ‘Let’s not mention Zack Shahin while we’re working to get her out, because they might not go well.’ ” he said.

Aida Dagher, Zack Shahin’s sister-in-law, said the family experienced “neglect and ignorance from the State Department and from the Biden administration.”

She said the family has tried to pursue every trial to get Zack Shahin released, to no avail.

“There is complete silence. We demand answers. Why was he rejected? President Biden pledged to take care of wrongfully imprisoned Americans. He is wrongly imprisoned,” she said.
