11 Year Old Girl Faces Criminal Charges After How She Tried To Eat A Peach – Women After 40

An 11-year-old girl was treated like a criminal after trying to cut a peach with a child’s butter knife during lunch at her middle school.

According to Local 10 News, the 11-year-old student at Silver Trail Middle School in Pembroke Pines, Fla., has been suspended over the incident.

That might not be the end as she may face criminal charges.

The child’s parents, Ronald and Andrea Souto, claimed their daughter was suspended for a full week. They explained why the punishment didn’t match the crime.

“This is a spoon, fork and knife set for toddlers – one year old,” Andrea said. “It’s made for children to learn how to eat properly. She’s been using it since she was a baby.”

But when a friend asked the girl for a piece of peach, the 11-year-old unknowingly violated the school’s gun policy.
“The friend asked for half of the peach and she cut half of the peach and gave it to her friend. She goes into the bathroom and comes back and the guy said, ‘Follow me,'” her father said.

Describing his daughter as someone who is always willing to help others, Ronald said the incident will only make his daughter afraid of principals.

“She’s afraid of the educators now. She is afraid of people at school. You have to change the system!” he said.
Her case was referred to the Pembroke Pines Police Department who in turn referred the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The school declined to comment on the incident.
