The Fish Bank at Sherburn in Elmet and Mr C’s in Selby were named among 40 other takeaways in the category at the National Fish and Chip Awards.
This year’s nomination process saw fish and chip businesses from across the UK take part in the awards with the sole aim of scooping the coveted crown and being named one of Britain’s best.
The jury put the hopeful contestants through an extensive evaluation process, testing them against industry best practices on environmental issues, product knowledge, their responsibilities as an employer and more.
As further rounds of evaluation are conducted to see which companies advance to the next stages, the finalists for Fish and Chip will be determined Snack of the year have now been shortened.
The Fish Bank and Mr C’s in North Yorkshire have been nominated for national awards
On Google Reviews, The Fish Bank has a rating of 4.8/5 from 238 reviews, with one person commenting, “Truly amazing.” fish and chipsundoubtedly one of the best in Yorkshire, if not the country.”
Mr C’s now has a rating of 4.5/5 from 832 reviews.

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers, organizers of the awards, commented: “The quality of entries for the 2024 National Fish and Chip Awards was simply fantastic and we are proud of everyone.” Restaurants Das obviously went to great lengths to be considered for the award.
“The Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year category is notoriously a difficult category to excel in, but the expert judging panel had to make many difficult decisions.
“However, we have selected an exceptional shortlist that demonstrates the unwavering passion, dedication and enthusiasm that the fish and chip industry brings to British culture.”
Seafood from Norway is the main sponsor of the 2024 awards, which are now in their 36th year.
The category winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
