’20 Years of Gum Removed’ After Acadiana Mall Entrances Cleaned

Acadiana Mall is feeling fresh after receiving some much-needed self-care this week.

As an 80’s baby and 90’s kid, I can attest that one of the coolest places to be during that time was the food court entrance of Acadiana Mall.

To be clear, I’m not talking about hanging out Inside the actual Acadiana Mall; although that was also a very cool place to hang out (and for some it still is). I’m speaking outside of the Acadiana Mall — where the cool kids kicked at it while waiting for their parents to pick them up and the “bad” cool kids smoked cigarettes.

Times have changed and hanging out at our Lafayette malls isn’t what it used to be. Most shopping centers have adapted consumer habits have changed along with the layouts. When I need something from the Acadiana Mall, it’s usually a back and forth.

I think it’s also fair to say that we’re older too and “hanging out” at the mall doesn’t have the same high-class appeal as it did in our glory youth.

But, you know what is still there from back then? The mess we made.

From dirt and mud ground into the concrete by the millions of steps, to spilled drinks (remember those giant $0.75 sodas from the food court?), to say the Acadiana Mall looked rough would be an understatement.

Acadiana Mall looks better than it has in a while thanks to a nightly cleaning by a local pressure washer company.

According to their Facebook post, Acadiana Mall was delighted to see their freshly cleaned entrances.

Perhaps the best part of this story is that the community staples rely on local businesses to be cleaned up. Cajun Field partners with Under Pressure to make the home of the Ragin’ Cajuns look good.

LA Drone Services has recently been using drones to clean the roof of the CAJUNDOME.

Now we have Wyatt’s Washes, which is giving Acadiana Mall a much-needed facelift.

Looking at the before and after pictures, Acadiana Mall seems super happy.

All we have to do is not spit our gum onto the sidewalk and it should be fine for another 20 years.

Congratulations to Acadiana Mall and a big thank you to the local businesses that keep our Lafayette landmarks fresh.
