28-year-old player edging closer towards sealing Arsenal exit

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is close to a move to Monza from Serie A, a report from the Daily Mail has claimed. The 28-year-old centre-back, who spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Udinese, is reportedly keen to return to Italy.

The Gunners loaned Mari to Udinese for six months in January. He adapted easily to the Italian top flight, eventually impressing his new employers in the 15 Serie A games he played for them. Unfortunately for Udinese, there was no option to buy in Mari’s contract.

Udinese are believed to still be interested in signing the Spaniard but are in an uphill battle against Monza, who have emerged as front runners for Mari’s services.

Monza are reportedly close to finalizing a loan deal with Arsenal for Mari. The deal, which could be finalized in the next 48 hours, would have a mandatory purchase option that would be activated if Monza manage to avoid relegation in the 2022-23 season.

Hellas Verona, a team from Serie A, have also expressed an interest in Mari, while the player himself has turned down offers from Turkish club Fenerbahce. The defender, who has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the north London side, is under contract with the Gunners until June 2024.
