Emmerdale has had its fair share of terrible relationships — but it’s having a bumper crop at the moment.
From adulterers and schemers to drug addicts and imbeciles, everything is a bit too much for us.
Here are the worst of the bunch on the ITV soap.
Vanessa and Susie
What do you get when you cross a plot device with a vet? Susie and Vanessa!
Their first meeting wasn’t just made up – why did Suzy happen to be carrying a cake to the village? – but why didn’t Vanessa just run over her?
Suzy is a recovering cocaine addict and you know it because she mentions it in every single scene. Militant vegans talk less.

And despite what the show claims — there’s literally no chemistry between this couple.
They’re not love’s young dream, they’re not forbidden lovers reaching beyond enemy lines, they’re two middle-aged lesbians who should know better.
David and Victoria
That should go without saying, but there was clearly a reason these two characters never interacted in the decades they’d both been in the village.
Oversized, bleached male child David is a mismatch with sensible mother-of-one Victoria Sugden.
Now she has sold her inheritance from her grandmother to save his failing business and it will all end in tears.
Assuming they ever get together. David has left the village for another break.
Small graces and such.
Matty and Amy
How could a relationship survive when one of them – cough cough Matty – runs around looking devious all the time while plotting revenge on someone who had a tenuous connection to his dead drug addict sister?
You can imagine the joy of saying good morning to your loved one and receiving a diatribe about Suzy Merton in return.

We almost expect his head to spin with the inner rage he carries around.
And let’s also talk about Amy – she dismissed her guilt in Frank’s death easily enough, didn’t she?
When I think about her condemning Meena Jutla! At least Meena knows she’s a killer.
Chas and Al
Do we even have to explain this?
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when the awful meets the awful and they have an affair, now you know.
It doesn’t make sense, they’re not being discreet and the worst thing is that we feel bad for Kerry Wyatt – and we just can’t.
Emmerdale normally airs weekdays at 19:30 on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
