A 20-year-old Oshawa woman dies in an e-scooter accident involving a pickup truck

A 20-year-old woman has died after being hit by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in Oshawa on Wednesday.

Durham Regional Police were called to an accident on Harmony Road at around 1.45pm. near Taunton Road. E.Oshawa. When they got to the scene, they found a woman seriously injured.

She was taken to a hospital where she died.
According to police, a black 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck was pulling out of a gas station on the southeast corner of the intersection when it collided with the e-scooter traveling on the sidewalk. The truck driver was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Just last month, Oshawa launched an e-scooter program in the city. Neuron Mobility was selected to provide 250 of its scooters for the city. The program uses built-in helmets, voice guidance, geofencing controls, fall detection, a 911 emergency button and Follow My Ride technology.
It was not immediately clear if the scooter used in that incident was part of the program.
