Football pundit and former Rangers manager Ally McCoist has praised Chelsea’s signing Mykhaylo Mudryk for his performance against Liverpool. McCoist even stated that the young forward was faster than blues legend Eden Hazard.
The Ukrainian was one of the few bright spots in a largely dour Premier League game that ended 0-0 at Anfield on Saturday 21 January. Mudryk came off the bench for teenager Lewis Hall in the 55th minute and immediately improved his side’s attack.
Speaking at talkSPORT Breakfast on Monday (January 23), McCoist said (as quoted by the Express):
“I’ve got him. He looks real. I’ll tell you what he is, he’s a lot faster than Hazard. He’s a flying machine. He was on for two minutes and James Milner was chasing him like me.” the six-a-side right now.”
Hazard was also known for his acceleration and dribbling skills during his seven-year spell at Stamford Bridge between 2012 and 2019. The Belgian recorded 110 goals and 92 assists in 352 games for the Blues and won six major titles.
The former Scotland international also referred to an incident that happened ten minutes after Mudryk came on for Chelsea. His quick pace saw him beat James Milner, who was playing at right-back, and the veteran had to foul him, earning him a yellow card.
“What a turn in pace it was and James was just a little late with the tackle, got a yellow card. But no what a cameo for starters, I thought he probably should have actually won the game to tell you the truth.”
He added about the overall game:
“I enjoyed the second half, the first half wasn’t great and didn’t have any real quality, but I enjoyed the second half. I thought Chelsea played well and could have won the game.
“Liverpool are still looking [Darwin] Nunez joined, but they look like they’re just looking for some form, someone to push them to get them going. But no, Mudryk certainly wowed Chelsea fans.”
Mykhaylo Mudryk certainly worried Liverpool during his cameo for Chelsea
Mykhaylo Mudryk made an encouraging debut for Chelsea in the Liverpool clash.
He had 28 touches and completed 13 of his 14 passes while also getting into good positions and recording a shot that went wide. Mudryk also made three tackles, completed two dribbles – no other Blues player recorded more than one – and won six of his eight ground duels.
His First League Arch was certainly impressive in the eyes of many. Club fans will be eager to see more from the Ukrainian, who is looking to salvage a crushing battle for a place in the top four in La Liga.
The draw with Liverpool left Chelsea in 10th place overall with 29 points from 20 games. They are still 10 behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who lost 3-2 to Arsenal on Sunday.
