A man saved a malnourished stray husky on the brink of death and the two became best friends. – Women After 40

As Rico Soegiarto was walking home from work in Denpasar, Bali, he saw a stray dog that was in such bad shape that it stopped in its tracks. The bitch was malnourished and infested with fleas, and most of her coat had fallen out due to mange and other skin conditions. He couldn’t let her die, so he picked her up and took her home.

Rico already had four dogs at home when he rescued this new stray. He realized she still had work to do by looking at her cute face. He thought she might be a hoarse mix, but he wasn’t sure given her poor health. He named her Hope.

After bringing Hope home, he began a daily grooming routine to reverse some of the damage sustained on the roads. Medicinal baths must have stung her sensitive skin, but the dog never snapped or acted aggressively. Instead, she gently licked her new master’s hand as if she knew he was trying to help her.

Hope was given high-quality dog food to help her gain weight and adjust to her new four-legged siblings. It took a while before she could walk without much pain and eventually she built more muscle.

Within ten months, Rico managed to transform Hope into a handsome, purebred, husky looking dog. Hope has become an amazing canine companion for Rico and his family as he worked hard and adored them so much. She is a far cry from the cowering, malnourished animal he found on the street that day.

It’s wonderful to see how Hope’s transformation has inspired us all. This is a great example of how caring for yourself (and others) can lead to a significant improvement in someone’s life, as well as a reminder of how rewarding the process can be. Instead of continuing on his way and ignoring the suffering animal, Rico took action and tried to make the world a better place.
