A month after closing, the M&S store in Middlesbrough is up for sale for £700,000

Marks and Spencer’s former Hill Street store in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough has been listed on online marketplace LoopNet for £700,000.

The 102,959-square-foot building closed last month (April 15), bosses said the decision was made as part of broader transformation plans.

The store was described to potential buyers as “versatile”, with “good through traffic” and “great facade”.

The location is on Linthorpe Road as well as in the Hill Street Shopping Centre.

Other nearby retailers include Primark, Next, Boots, Superdrug and Boyes.

Craig Baldock, M&S Regional Manager, said of the decision in January: “This has been a difficult decision but it means we can invest in many of our 21 other stores in the North East, including M&S Teesside, so we can keep up with demand .” of our customers today and in the future.

“Our priority now is to engage with our colleagues on what this announcement means to them and to support them in these changes.”

This comes after all stores in Darlington, Durham, South Shields, Redcar and Hartlepool closed over the last decade.

M&S previously announced it would be opening 20 new stores this year, including 12 food halls and eight full-line locations.

Speaking of the store closure, Middlesbrough MP Andy Mcdonald said: “The announcement that Marks and Spencer will be closing its store in Middlesbrough is a devastating blow.”

“The flagship store has been part of Middlesbrough for over 100 years and is an important and popular part of our retail offering.

“The loss of jobs is truly appalling for all employees affected and hearing this news after Marks & Spencer has enjoyed a successful holiday season is particularly difficult to understand.”
