A mountain lion screeching in the forest might be nature’s scariest sound

When I’m out in nature and I hear that, I immediately run back to four walls and a roof.

Mountain lions are one of America’s top predators.

According to National Wildlife Foundationthey have the largest range of any living mammal in the Americas, stretching from Canada’s Yukon to the Strait of Magellan in Chile, and can settle in a variety of environments including mountains, forests, deserts, and wetlands.

They are top-tier predators known for taking down everything from small game to elk, like here crazy video from colorado.

And while they’re usually very reserved in their behavior, when they decide to let out a yell it’s one of the absolutely scariest sounds you’ll ever hear.

want proof Check out this video that outdoorsman Westin Yancey posted a few years ago.

While out hunting with a young boy (maybe his son?), Westin heard some distant screams in the woods and immediately began recording, capturing a sound that still leaves goosebumps on my skin.

There’s really no way to describe the sound without hearing it, so just turn up the volume and record it.

If something in your DNA doesn’t wake up right away and tell you there’s a problem and you need to get out, then you go to a doctor, neurologist, ENT, brain surgeon, I don’t know, just go to someone because there’s a problem there must be something wrong.

How this boy stayed so calm is beyond me. But hey, that’s what a good outdoor rearing will do for you I think.

I would run for the hills…
