If you’ve ever watched Back to the Future Part II, then you know they predicted that by 2015 we would have flying cars.
Unfortunately, director Robert Zemeckis and Michael J. Fox got it all wrong, and here we are almost eight years later and still no flying cars…
However, we continue to find ways to get ever closer to that utopian future Back to the Future tried so desperately to create.
From automated fast food restaurants where your food is prepared and served to you by robots, to a boatload of money to fly into space with Jeff Bezos, and most recently…
Bourbon aged in space?
Yes, this is not a false alarm.
After abc11, Mystic Farm and Distillery of Durham, North Carolina is working on a new whiskey called Mystic Galactic.
The distillery hopes to work with companies like SpaceX, Inversion Space, Bank of America, and others to fund, design, test, and build ships to send five casks of whiskey into space (Okay, Low Earth Orbit , but same difference). , for a year for additional aging.
Commenting on the new project, Jonathan Blitz, co-owner of Mystic:
“We are redefining what it means to create a rare spirit. Only about 1,300 people on the planet will ever have the opportunity to taste and own this piece of whiskey history. It is the pinnacle of luxury and exclusivity, not to mention the first commercial product made in space.”
Mystic says they will draw the five casks from stock that has been aged for at least three years.
You can order by paying a deposit of $75,000 as each buyer will receive a non-fungible token to prove authenticity and ownership.
They also get access to an app that shows them real-time mission data, as well as access to exclusive launch and re-entry parties.
The remaining bottles are sold at market price and initial orders are filled.
Durham State Assemblyman Zack Hawkins also expressed his excitement:
“The space casks will be recovered and returned to Mystic upon re-entry, putting North Carolina on the map as an innovative producer of ultra-premium bourbon whiskey.
This is an excellent example of the world-class products made in our state and how we are leading the way for the future.”
Get ready, by God.
