A Strong Cold Front Will Have South Louisiana Residents Grabbing Their Jackets This Week

A strong but brief cold front seems poised to bring temperatures down midweek, leaving Acadiana residents looking for their coats and sweaters.

The brief cold snap is expected to kick in Monday night, taking Tuesday and Wednesday’s highs into the mid-60s. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the upper 30s for both days.

Temperatures will climb back into the 70s on Thursday before returning to the low 80s by Friday.

This is the second major cold front of the season and comes in an October that at times had slightly above average temperatures. On average, temperatures throughout the month range from the mid 70’s to the low 80’s but this month we’ve seen temperatures as high as 38 degrees at times.

And while this cold front may be brief, it is a sign that fall is here.

Tropical update

In the meantime, if you’re wondering if tropical activity is on the way to grapple with the glorious weather, there’s good news there too.

Currently, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting no tropical activity over the next 48 hours as there are no systems currently in development. A former tropical system deep in the Atlantic looked like it might be heading our way, but overwater conditions prevented it from turning into a major storm.

The hurricane season ends at the end of November.
