Acadiana man killed while walking I-10 in Alabama

State Troopers in Alabama say a Jeanerette Louisiana Mann was beaten and killed early Wednesday morning while walking down I-10 near Daphne. Police officers say the highway was shrouded in thick fog at the time of the incident. Alabama State Police said a motorist called 911 around 4:30 a.m. who reported hitting an “unidentified object on the road.”

Alabama Troopers identified the deceased as 42-year-old Anthony J. Norris of Jeanerette Louisiana. Based on information gathered at the scene, troopers say Norris was in the Daphne Alabama area for a job-related function. That has been reported Norris was out with a colleague when the two had a disagreement.

Because of the disagreement, Norris exited the vehicle and began to walk. The cause of the disagreement nor the identity of the employee were disclosed at the time. A spokesman for Police Department Daphne Alabama said the incident was not of a criminal nature. The department extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

As a result of the crash, a section of Interstate 10 between the Malbis exit and the Daphne exit had to be closed. The area where Norris was hit and killed was under heavy fog at the time. The report issued by law enforcement found Norris was walking “near the westbound lanes” of the road when he was hit and killed.

No charges have yet been filed against the driver who hit Norris, but the Alabama State Police and Daphne Police Department have not yet closed the case. It should be mentioned that Pedestrian or foot traffic is prohibited along the highways and other “access controlled roads”. It is also unlawful to ride bicycles on or off these lanes.

Naturally, in case of emergancy Motorists can get out of their vehicles, but if they must walk, it is recommended to walk in the direction of oncoming traffic if possible. However, most law enforcement agencies suggest that if a motorist has a problem while driving on a freeway, they should pull the vehicle out of lanes as far as possible and call 911.
