An evacuation center was opened for local residents forced to evacuate their homes following a major industrial fire in Mansfield.

More than 100 firefighters from 16 crews attended the Forest Road blaze after the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service was called around 3.45pm on Saturday.

A video posted to Twitter shows flames and plumes of smoke coming out of the building.

There were no reports of injuries but some residents have been evacuated from their homes – and the Oak Tree Leisure Center on Jubilee Way South has been opened to those affected.

Nottinghamshire Police said the force was helping firefighters tackle the blaze.

Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones said: “Thankfully there have been no reports of injuries but neighboring streets have been evacuated as a precaution.

“The Oak Tree Leisure Center on Jubilee Way South will open from 7pm as a safe space for those affected by the fire.

“This incident is likely to continue for some time so please avoid the area if possible.”
