Alfie Gilchrist signs a new Chelsea contract ahead of his potential January exit

Helsea defender Alfie Gilchrist has extended his contract with Chelsea for another year until June 2025.
The 19-year-old did not feature in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino is aware that his Blues U21 captain has already taken him on a tour of the United States ahead of the season.
Gilchrist has not yet made his debut in an official senior game but has played around 75 minutes in warm-up games under his new coach this summer.
Chelsea have decided to tie Gilchrist down to a new contract after Sheffield United sparked interest in a permanent transfer this summer.
Gilchrist has also been interested in a loan move and could consider a temporary move again in January when the transfer window opens.
The central defender was signed by Queens Park Rangers in the U11s and comes from a family of Chelsea fans.
He was nominated for PL2 Player of the Year last season and was on the first team bench for the first time at Old Trafford last season under Frank Lampard.
