NASCAR heads to Hampton, Georgia (just outside of Atlanta) for the fifth race of the 2023 season. Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54 mile, low grade, tri-oval intermediate track. The race distance is 400 miles (260 laps). What madness can happen to the drivers this weekend?

This weekend’s race comes a week after the United Rentals Work United 500, which saw William Byron win again, beating Tyler Reddick and Ryan Blaney.

William Byron goes into this race as the +900 favorite followed by Kyle Busch (+1000) and four riders at +1200. It was at this track that Chevy, particularly Hendrick, asserted some dominance. William Byron fended off Ross Chastain and Kurt Busch. Will Bubba Wallace and Josh Berry benefit from driving cars that placed in the top ten last year? Those are just a few questions.

NASCAR drivers will fire up their engines on the 1.54-mile 60-100-100 stage lap setup as the flag drops for Sunday afternoon’s race, which begins just after 3:00 p.m. ET on FOX.

William Byron is the best choice for Sunday, but…

Now there is a distinct dilemma when betting at Atlanta Motor Speedway. For one thing, it’s a moderately difficult track that behaves more like a square superspeedway. Last year was the first year with a narrower track and steeper corners. With 46 lead changes in 20 drivers, betting was a bit more challenging. Byron was able to win more late on due to Chevy dominance. Five of the first six cars were Chevys.

So the DraftKings sports betting odds fluctuated very slightly, but nothing out of the ordinary. Kyle Larson tends to lead a few laps here and is listed alongside Byron as a co-favorite (+900). Josh Berry’s odds are better on the site at +5000 for a win and +700 for a top 5. His top ten (+200) is more intriguing since Chase Elliott drove this car sixth last year.

Sportsbooks see Kyle Busch as a favorite after a month on NASCAR at around +675. However, NASCAR Cup Series odds are still in their infancy. Elliott still remains in the top five at +1000 for now. William Byron’s back-to-back wins put him at +800, right alongside teammate Kyle Larson. Two-time champion Joey Logano is now just a whisker behind at +1050.

Atlanta offers a different picture compared to Las Vegas and Phoenix. Chevy might have an even better car this week, but the Ryan Blaney Ford is always one to keep an eye on. He won this race in 2021. This race remains one of the fastest on track this decade.

Qualifying just this week in Atlanta could make things a little more interesting. Since it takes place around noon on Saturday, the numbers might spread out a bit later in the day.

Ambetter Health 400 predictions and tips

Yes, partly sunny conditions with cooler temperatures and a low chance of rain are likely this weekend.

Qualifying well helps but is not automatic to win in Atlanta, unlike say Phoenix.

Could a rider like Josh Berry or even Corey Lajoie cause an upset? Lajoie was fourth here last year and ended up having one of the fastest cars.

The order of finish seems to dictate Chevy-Blaney-Toyota-Ford. Will that work out on Sunday at such a volatile track? Here, too, heaps of round chances and double-digit warning potential could disturb a lot of betting cards.
