Amid Hurricane Ian, Elon Musk Says Tesla’s Cybertruck Will Be Waterproof Enough To Cross Rivers, Lakes, & Calm Seas

Think of the “Cybertruck” Elon Musk introduced by Tesla a few years ago?

Well, if you’re not too familiar, the electric truck looks like something straight forward Back to the Future, and looks like it could withstand the terrain of the moon.

The single-engine Cybertruck, which starts under $40,000, has an estimated range of about 250 miles and can go from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds, while achieving a top speed of 110 mph and a maximum tow weight of 7,500 pounds .

The dual engine, which is priced at $49,900, will have a range of 300 miles and a clock of 4.5 seconds, with a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.

And the three-engine? At $69,900, it has a range of 500 miles with a top speed of 130 mph and can go from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and tow 13,000 pounds.

Yes, the thing is a unit for an electric vehicle.

Perhaps the wildest part about the Cybertruck, however, is that Elon Musk is now saying it will be amphibious.

He sent a tweet saying:

“The Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to temporarily serve as a boat, allowing it to cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren’t too choppy.”

In response, he included a second tweet that said:

“Must be able to get to South Padre Island from the starbase, which requires crossing the channel.”

We’re talking a whopping 40 miles… that would be pretty damn impressive.

Imagine seeing this thing for the first time while fishing on a boat? If I hadn’t known beforehand I would have thought we were being attacked by aliens or something.

Despite this, it appears to be the perfect hurricane evacuation vehicle. Big, heavy, powerful… and mostly waterproof.

Crazy.
