Los Angeles has long been looked down upon by its East Coast peers, but now that the rest of the world has caught up with California’s obsession with green juices and wellness, the city is having something of a moment. No longer considered a cultural wasteland, LA is brimming with new art galleries and museums, a thriving fashion scene, and some of America’s most talked-about restaurants.
The sprawling urban metropolis is made up of several different cities within one city, the most famous of which are Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Santa Monica. Each has its own distinctive personality, from the upscale bars and boutiques of Rodeo Drive to the beach scenes of Venice and Santa Monica.
The lack of public transport can be an issue — although the subway system is currently undergoing major expansion — but navigating between the different neighborhoods is easier than you might think (as long as you avoid the infamous rush-hour traffic). Add almost 300 days of sunshine a year and you’re on the winning side.
