Arctic MX-6 Thermal Grease to replace Storied MX-5

A point of the month to the day (the day before 9:30 – the day before)

Amazon Germany has listed the Arctic MX-6 at a whopping price of 28.75 (opens in new tab) ($23.76) per 4 grams.

With the MX-series thermal compounds being some of the most popular among PC manufacturers, the company’s MX-5 is widely considered to be the best thermal compound the company makes. So far it’s believed to be finalizing a brand new nanothermic paste this week.

The biggest surprise is that Arctic just finished its MX-5 about 1.5 years after its launch in early 2021 and weeks before AMD and Intel start selling their new processors “Raphael”, “Raptor Lake” and the 13th Gen. Generation start Core and ‘Raptor Lake’, with more powerful processors. Nevertheless, two pictures of the Arctic MX-6 packages were posted [email protected]_us, a high-tech leaker with a solid reputation, points out that the new thermal paste is coming.

Arctic’s MX-5 thermal compound consists of aluminum oxide, aluminum powder, aluminum nitride, polydimethylsiloxane, magnesium oxide and boron nitride. The paste contains micro-particles that fill the surface of heat spreaders and cooler base areas without circular structure. The conductivity of the MX-5 is 8 w/mK at a temperature of -40 to 180 degrees Celsius. Essentially, it’s not designed for extreme overclocking. It has a viscosity of 550 km/h, which is less than MX-4 but still quick to apply.

The Arctic MX-5 was introduced in 2021 but its thermal conductivity hasn’t changed from the latest MX-4 in 2019 to the new MX-5. While 8.5 W/mK isn’t bad compared to cheap mainstream thermal paste, it’s well below the thermal conductivity of market leaders like Kryonaut and Kryonaut Extreme, which are designed for extreme overclockers. In general, under normal conditions, the MX-5 performs very well, according to the best CPU thermal compounds. However, Arctic has something better, so it’s not like the MX-5 as it doesn’t just keep the MX-4 afloat.

The new clout was better than the new clout. In contrast, the MX-6 actually replaces the MX-5.

I don’t know exactly what to expect from MX 6, but our guess is that this will be an entirely new challenge, but perhaps specifically designed to match upcoming processors from AMD and Intel. With the new thermal paste definitely coming soon, we’ll find out soon. Arctic MX-6 Thermal Grease to replace Storied MX-5
