Arsenal are set to replace the fan favorite as William Gallas says his ‘urgent’ transfer window is a priority

Former Arsenal player William Gallas has urged the club to focus on signing new defenders as an “urgent” priority.
Mikel Arteta is expected to bolster his midfield with rumored early summer moves for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.
Still, Gallas believes replacing Ben White at right-back is a more pressing matter for Arsenal, despite the former Brighton man having received rave reviews for his performances this season.
“I think Arsenal need to recruit a lot of players,” he said Genting Casino. “You need a left-back, a right-back.
“Ben White is not a right-back – I think we saw that in the difficult games. When Arsenal have played against better opponents, they have had trouble influencing the attacking part of the game.
“I think it’s because he’s a centre-back played in a wrong position. I think Arsenal need to sign an experienced centre-back. I’ve said this many times: Arsenal needed to sign an experienced centre-back just in case one of Gabriel or [William] Saliba was injured, which unfortunately happened.
“I think Arsenal need to add another type of striker too.”
West Ham midfielder Rice is expected to be in Arsenal’s sights when the Hammers’ season ends next month.
Gallas, who spent four years in north London, reckons such a move would result in Thomas Partey or another player in the position being sold. Granit Xhaka is in talks about a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
“He’s a very good player who I think will reach a new level when he joins a top club and that’s why I think he’ll be leaving West Ham this summer,” he continued.
“Arsenal have to sell a midfielder because they can’t have that many at the club and also sign Rice. I know there will be a lot of extra games with the Champions League, but they have to sell one of them.
“Arsenal will want to make a statement on signing. Okay, Rice is in the market, but I think their more pressing need is to sign top-notch defenders.”
