Arsenal boss Vinai Venkatesham gives a blunt answer when asked about Mykhaylo Mudryk

Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatsham was blunt when asked about the club’s pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk striker Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Gunners boss stressed the club would continue to support Mikel Arteta in the winter transfer window but declined to comment on the Mudryk connections.

Arsenal are enjoying a dream run in the Premier League this season as they are currently top of the table with 44 points after 17 games. There have been calls for the Londoners to add a couple of winter signings to their squad if they aim to win the title.

Venkatsham have revealed the club are keeping an eye on the market.

“We have a very clear plan, led by Edu, of what we want to do to strengthen the squad. Of course, we will look at the possibilities in every transfer window.

“Of course, if something makes sense technically and financially, we look at it, but we are happy with the squad we have. We’ll be scouting like every transfer window but we have a long-term plan,” he told Sky Sports.

The Gunners boss was further pressed on whether Arsenal are any closer to signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, to which he replied:

“You know the answer I will give you. We won’t talk about specific players.”

Mykhaylo Mudryk is being watched by the Gunners and a host of other clubs across Europe following his impressive performances this season. The 22-year-old has made 18 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk in all competitions so far this season, recording 10 goals and 8 assists.

During an interview with Calciomercato, Shakhtar director Carlo Nicolini warned potential suitors that they would have to pay more than the €100m Manchester United paid for Antony to sign Mudryk.

“Is €40m enough to buy him? We don’t talk about those numbers. Not even for €50m, we don’t even call the President to share the offer. We value Mudryk more than Manchester United’s Antony, who cost 100 million euros.” .

“We’re not obliged to sell, we don’t want to create phenomena. We don’t want to shoot numbers that aren’t realistic. But in this team he’s the decisive one. If you want to take on certain players who To make a difference in the top clubs, you also need the right money,” he said.
