Arsenal terminate Nicolas Pepe’s contract with ‘over £10m left in debt’ in £72m flop

icolas Pepe’s turbulent career at Arsenal has come to an end after an agreement was reached to terminate his contract.
The Gunners signed the Ivory Coast winger with great fanfare in 2019, agreeing to pay £72m in installments when he joined from Lille – a transfer fee of which over £10m is reportedly still owed.
Pepe, 28, is moving to Turkish club Trabzonspor after his contract with Arsenal ended with a year remaining.
Arsenal said in a statement: “We can confirm that Nicolas Pepe is leaving the club. We have agreed with Nicolas to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
“Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nicolas for his contribution during his time with us and wish him all the best for the future.”
The player scored 27 goals in 112 appearances after returning to Ligue 1 on loan at Nice last season. His last appearance for Arsenal came in October 2021.
Pepe is the latest player to have his contract terminated during Mikel Arteta’s tenure in north London, following the departures of Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac, Willian and Hector Bellerin.
