Arsenal vs Man City LIVE! Community Shield game stream, latest scores and goal updates today

Today Arsenal and Manchester City kick off a new season at Wembley Stadium with the traditional Community Shield kick-off. The Gunners narrowly pushed City for most of the last game but Pep Guardiola’s side ended the season by winning a famous treble and few would bet against them maintaining their dominance.
Still, Arsenal embarked on an ambitious recruitment drive this summer. Kai Havertz starts on offense for the Arsenal team and they are spots for his eye-catching signings Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice, while Mikel Arteta returns after such a promising season for the club.
However, City provides the yardstick by which success is measured in England today. While a win at this point last season did little to boost Liverpool’s title chances, a win would be an important sign of intention for Arsenal. Kevin De Bruyne starts on her bench. Mikel Arteta explains the selection of Kai Havertz
Arsenal today moved up top with Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah due to the absence of Gabriel Jesus.
Mikel Arteta didn’t give too much away as he explained why he made the decision in a pre-match chat with ITV.
He said: “We have to think about how we start and end the game. We had a few issues during the week so the line-up for the whole game is being considered.”

Pep Guardiola previews Josko Gvardiol’s Man City XI arrival
Josko Gvardiol is absent today but Man City manager Pep Guardiola believes he will improve the side for a long time to come.
“First of all, he’s a left centre-back, it’s not easy [to find]’ he tells ITV.
“He’s really good physically, he’s really good in the build-up on his left foot. It’s a lot of money at 21, but at 21 it’s not a problem.
“He is a guarantee for the future, he will try to improve the team not only for next season, but for the future.”
Roy Keane demands more from Arsenal
Speaking on ITV before the game, the pundit made it clear that Arsenal cannot rely on last year’s strong performance to win the 2023/24 title.
“A lot of people talk about a good game, talk about where they need to improve… The evidence is there,” Keane said.
“They put themselves in a great position last year, obviously they’ve fallen short physically and mentally – both in power and depth.
“So they can talk until the cows come home, the proof is there. If push comes to shove like last year, we’ll see if they’re in the same position and they can learn from that.”

Dom Smith at Wembley Stadium
In previous seasons the team, represented in a Community Shield in the same way Arsenal are here, perhaps felt a little out of place – maybe semi-embarrassed to be here. Not here.
Proud of Arsenal’s title challenge last season, Mikel Arteta sees today as a fitting test against the best team in the country before the start of the new Premier League campaign next season.
It’s going to be a fascinating watch.
