Ashley McBryde Recalls The Time She Almost Burnt Dolly Parton’s House Down

Exhibit A on what not to do when trying to make it big in Nashville…

It’s almost like burning down the home of the greatest and most respected country artist of all time.

Ashley McBryde recently sat down for an interview with the Rob+Holly podcast for the Faster Horses Festival as she recalled a wild tale of her trying to get back on her feet Dolly Partons Good site for years.

And the reason why?

She watched Dolly’s niece while her lakeside home was being remodeled, and a microwave incident caused the home to burn almost to the ground.

McBryde remembered the story like it was yesterday:

“For the past few years I’ve managed not to say stupid things to Dolly (Parton) because I just go the other way. I set her microwave on fire.

You do a lot of weird things when you first move to Nashville. I got this job… They were remodeling their house by the lake and my job was to stay there with their niece (who) was my mate.

We should stay there and let the wallpaper guys in and out and do stuff like that. I take the blame for (the fire) because I’m the one who removed the burning microwave from the house, but honestly it was her niece.

She put a whole crate of Bagel Bites in the crate and then ‘beep’, there it goes into a freshly wallpapered room.”

Of course, this was McBryde’s last day at work, but Dolly gave her a nice gift of gratitude:

“So I lost my job, but Dolly gave me the microwave.”

Hey, I respect the whole blame game, but come on, Ashley, you’re trying to be a country music star, and you’re gonna take the blame for almost burning down a country music legend’s house?

A better man than me, no doubt.

Still, I’d say the incident didn’t affect her career very much, as she’s currently one of the most popular and promising female country stars in the game, having racked up a couple of ACM and CMA awards and a couple of Top 10 albums.
