Asia Cup 2022: “They are trying to recover from it”

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif believes Team India’s 10-wicket loss to Pakistan at last year’s T20 World Cup may still come to mind as they prepare to face the same opponents at the Asian Cup.

The two teams will face off at Dubai International Stadium on August 28th. The tournament will be held in T20 format, likely to help teams better prepare for October’s T20 World Cup.

However, Rashid Latif said on the Caught Behind YouTube channel on Friday that the men in blue will focus on beating Pakistan and winning the Asian Cup rather than thinking too much about what lies ahead. He said:

“I don’t think they’re thinking about the World Cup. They’re taking series after series, it’s worth noting that teams change with every series. Their focus will be on the Asian Cup. Losing to Pakistan caused a lot.” Damage for the Indian team so they are trying to recover from that.”

Latif believes UAE conditions will suit Babar Azam and company and their win last year could also give them a slight advantage. To this end he stated:

“The conditions in the United Arab Emirates suit them. India will give their all in the game against Pakistan. They have dominated the clashes between the two sides for the past 20 years but Pakistan won by 10 wickets in their last game. So much planning will address that.”

If all players are available, India could be favorites for the Asia Cup: Rashid Latif

Captain Rohit Sharma and manager Rahul Dravid have been experimenting a lot with their squad lately. They rested some of their older players and gave fringe players a chance to showcase their talent.

However, the 53-year-old believes he can field the strongest team possible against Pakistan at the Asian Cup. Injuries to their key players aside, Latif believes the men in blue can win the tournament:

“You can play as many series as you want, but the game between India and Pakistan remains very important. I believe that the Indian team, the board and the management will pay a lot of attention to the game against Pakistan in the Asian Cup. They would want it.” to win the Asian Cup and if all the players are available they can be favourites.”

There is a strong possibility that these arch-rivals will meet up to three times at this Asian Cup.
