Austin Butler Responds to 2023 Oscar Nomination Calling It ‘Bittersweet’ After Lisa Marie Presley’s Tragic Death

Austin Butler responds to his first-ever Oscar nomination for his work as Elvis Presley in the movie elvis.

He called the nomination bittersweet, eh Lisa Marie Presley, elvis‘ Daughter, died suddenly a few weeks ago at the age of only 54.

When calling the today Show, austin Said of the nomination: “It’s a bittersweet moment right now as I think about how I wish she were here right now to celebrate with me. It’s the same as what I feel with elvis; I wish they could see these moments, you know? It’s just strange to celebrate at a time of such deep sadness. But I kind of see it as a way to honor her. This is for you.”

In a separate interview with THR, austin divided, “[This role] seemed like this impossible mountain to climb before me. There were so many pitfalls that I just focused on one step at a time. And really, I just wanted to honor the life of this man and his family. And therefore these moments when Lisa Marie and Priscilla [Presley] I had to see the film and then I saw her for the first time afterwards…nothing I would do would ever top that. And especially with Lisa Marie not be here with us. I just wish she was here to celebrate with us today.”

“She was the most straightforward and supportive person. I know from all the times we got to party together, how we would party today, you know, and I wish she and Elvis were here to experience that time.” austin continued.

He added, “It really puts things into perspective, which is ultimately what I’m most grateful for, that I got to spend the time that I had Lisa Marie, and also the time I had to live and research her father’s life for three years. When I see moments like today or when I feel moments like today, I really need to take a second to say, ‘Okay, this is something I really have to be thankful for.’ But nothing compares to the moment I looked into her eyes after she saw the film for the first time, as she told me how much it meant to her. I will really cherish that for the rest of my life.”
