The Australian Open director has defended the organization for doing an “incredible job” despite the bitter row over whether Novak Djokovic can play.
Craig Tiley, the chief executive of Tennis Australia, told staff in the video that he could not speak publicly due to the ongoing legal battle over the player’s status, but said they had done everything possible to ensure the tournament’s viability.
“There’s a lot of blame and finger pointing going on, but I can assure you that our team did an incredible job and did everything they could according to all the instructions they were given,” he said.
In the video message published in News Corp newspapers on Saturday, Mr Tiley further explained: “There was a circumstance that affects some players, especially Novak … in a very difficult situation.
“We are a player-first event. We are working closely with Novak and his team and others and their team who are in this situation.”
