Backstage details of Tony Khan’s initiatives to support Jay Briscoe’s family

The wrestling world is still recovering from the shocking news that ROH Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe has passed away at the age of 38 and it appears that AEW President Tony Khan is doing whatever it takes to support Jay’s family.
Jay Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh, was involved in a fatal car accident on January 17, 2023 when another driver pulled into his lane and hit his vehicle head-on. Jay’s two daughters were also in the vehicle, both sustained serious injuries but have since recovered in hospital.
Many inside and outside of the wrestling community have done what they can to support the Pugh family during this time, with The Young Bucks, Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho donating thousands of dollars to a GiveSendGo fund page aimed at helping Jay Briscoe’s family.
One person reportedly going out of his way to help the Pugh family is AEW President Tony Khan. Speaking of What happened when Podcast, Tony Schiavone and co-host Conrad Thompson both praised Khan for his work, although Conrad admitted Tony didn’t want such high praise for something like this.
“I don’t want to disclose any confidentialities, but let me say the following. There are many rumors and insinuations from really good sources that Tony Khan is who we thought he was and that he will do the right thing by this family too I don’t think he necessarily wants anyone to know this information and I know it’s not yours [Tony Schiavone] place to talk about it, but I’m saying this in spite of all the criticism that’s been thrown around ‘Tony that, Tony that’. When it comes down to it, he’s a guy.” (H/T combative)
Schiavone agreed with his co-host, admitting that while working for Khan can be challenging at times, it’s undoubtedly worth it, even in situations like Jay Briscoe’s recent death.
“Tony is very demanding of a boss and that makes the week very difficult at times, but wrestling has always been difficult. There has never been an ease. Tony can be very demanding as a boss can be, but because he’s such a great person and such a genuine person who loves the wrestling business and cares about his people, he’s worth working for.” (H/T combative)
Tony Khan compiled Jay Briscoe: A Celebration of Life after the AEW events in Fresno, California
AEW typically has long days when it comes to work, as the company typically hosts a live episode of Dynamite, as well as tapings for Rampage and Dark: Elevation on the same day.
A fourth show was added to the final notes in Fresno, California, but it was certainly worth it for fans who stuck by, as Ring of Honor presented Jay Briscoe: A Celebration of Life.
The show was taped after the Rampage taping and is scheduled to air in the near future on both the Ring of Honor YouTube channel and the HonorClub streaming service.
The Briscoes were reportedly not allowed to appear in any real capacity on Dynamite because WarnerBros Discovery banned Jay and Mark from appearing in any AEW program.
Everyone at Sportskeeda Wrestling would like to once again send their thoughts and prayers to the Pugh family at this time.
Rhea Ripley just said she would like to attend the Men’s Rumble. Check out Lashley’s hilarious reaction here
