A little over 16 years later, the Uruguayan icon returned to Montevideo to play soccer. He explained his decision to him MARKA in an interview published on October 1st:

“We made the decision to return to the team that saw me go, for which I am very grateful. It was a difficult and complicated decision because I’m close to a World Cup, but I left with the conviction and certainty that I’m going to take the right step because I had to set the pace of the preparation. Being competitive in every league is not easy.”

In his second tenure at the club, he scored eight goals and provided three assists in 16 games.
