Haxby’s Ewan Thompson founded Hospitality Benchmark Solutions, which is already reporting customer success.
Ewan said: “Hospitality is the cornerstone of the North Yorkshire economy. But this incredible, once thriving sector is struggling more and more each year, and many need targeted help to ensure they continue to thrive for years to come.
“I put my passion for hospitality into this project knowing that most local businesses have not had access to support of this kind in the past. In many cases, they haven’t even had the opportunity to talk about their problems, let alone a resource to help them through it all.”
Ewan has extensive experience in hospitality troubleshooting, opening and running new businesses and improving the performance of existing establishments.
In senior positions at Living Ventures and Provenance Inns & Hotels, Ewan opened, operated and stabilized several high-volume restaurants, hotels and bars on the UK’s high street. This includes working as General Manager of the West Park Hotel in Harrogate.
More recently, Ewan worked with Sodexo, a global facilities management company, as part of their UK & Ireland business improvement division, with a focus on delivering multi-million pound business improvements to complex new openings and supporting underperforming businesses customers in increasing their profitability.
“I could see the negative fallout from Covid and Brexit and the impact it was having at a local level and knew I could really help. Establishing HBS has allowed me to bring the quality processes and skills that optimize the performance of large companies to the Yorkshire hospitality sector,” he continued.
With rising inflation, energy, recruitment gaps and a cost of living crisis, it has never been more important for hospitality workers to excel at what they do.
It is about profit optimization, recruiting, retention, marketing, operational excellence and revenue maximization.
Among Ewan’s first clients in York was the Whippet Inn, which over the past year has overcome known problems.
