BOOM Esports’ CEO speaks out after a VALORANT partnership snub

VALORANT’s competitive scene was turned on its head yesterday after Riot Games announced all of its partner groups for next year. BOOM Esports CEO Gary Ongko has spoken out as his team missed out.

Six organizations were selected to compete in Asia Pacific. The games were launched in 2020 and completed for the VCT Champions that year, but although BOOM Esports entered the scene a few months after the game, BOOM Esports was not among the selected organizations.

In a formal statement, BOOM Esports CEO Gary Ongko expressed his gratitude to the supporters who have supported the team since its inception in 2020. However, he also said he was disappointed that the cut hadn’t ended.

We thought we were a strong candidate, he said. As one of the top 10 Asian sports teams, we met most of the Indonesian teams, the top 4 biggest I tried to win to reconsider our application.

He also announced that he had discovered his organization could not be selected for a partnership before attending VCT Champions. The results of the event did not affect the selection process of the team. BOOM finished in the last four after being knocked out of the group stage.

Riot stated yesterday that values, fan base engagement and focus on sustainability are the key criteria for the selection process, rather than previous results and competitive performance.

Ongko ended his statement by showing that organizations are committed to VALORANT, and he believes that going forward, BOOM will qualify as a player for Asia Pacific through the promotion competitions. He said that you will continue to help us in the past season.
