Broncos QB Russell Wilson gets cooked on social media after another disastrous performance

Russell Wilson’s dreadful start to the 2022 NFL season continued Monday night when the Denver Broncos quarterback suffered another disastrous performance in his team’s 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Wilson attempted 28 passes and completed just 15 for 188 passing yards against a Chargers defense that ranked 31st in the league in points allowed. The quarterback started the game with fire, completing 10/10 for 116 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter.

That early form inexplicably dissipated in the second quarter, and he completed just five more passes for 72 yards through three quarters and overtime. The loss dropped the Broncos to 2-4 for the season.

Wilson received no sympathy on social media as fans fried the quarterback’s poor outing. The “Let Russ Cook” nickname has quickly become a meme this season:

Here are some more hilarious tweets about Wilson’s performance:

Russell Wilson’s contract is already aging badly

Six games into his Denver Bronco career, Russell Wilson hasn’t shown much to justify his mammoth $245 million contract with the team. The Broncos gave up three players and five picks for the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback, only to see his replacement in Seattle outplay him so far this season.

Wilson is on the Broncos’ books through the 2028 NFL season. If the quarterback fails to reverse that poor form, the team will face the horror of having to use an aging and declining multi-season signal caller that is realistically untradeable given the size of his contract.

The Broncos are unlikely to unplug Wilson this early in his tenure as a member of their roster. They will exercise patience and exhaust every option before benching the quarterback or ending ties with a trade or release.

But given the size of his contract and the fact that they traded their two top picks to the Seahawks in the 2023 and 2024 NFL drafts, it will be difficult for the Broncos to use more talent around Russell Wilson than they are currently do.

Mile High isn’t looking good.
