The Bungie team has decided to shower us with the franchise we haven’t heard from in years. According to unheard inside information, Bungie developers plan to revive the Marathon franchise after more than 20 years. The first Marathon game was released in 1994, with two sequels in 1995 and 1996. If true, this would be the first game in over 10 years as the Bungie team worked on a different version of Destiny.
Insider Gaming claimed the game to be a PvP shooter with three-man squad capture. The action for the rumored new Marathon game is set on an abandoned planet where cyborgs are now the center of the show. Known as runners, these cyborgs venture into the world to obtain loot and resources. From what it sounds like, players will most likely play the same way as the Runners, hoping to extract loot from various game maps while battling other players’ cyborgs.
A few years ago, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons announced that the company would be launching more franchises and that it would have to do so by 2025. From the news of Bungie’s trademarked Matter, this insider account of Marathon’s potential revival seems to be the answer to fans’ thirst for the last few years.
The Bungie fan calls himself Escape from Destiny to signal that the game sounds a lot like Battlestate Games, a successful extraction PvP shooter Escape from Tarkov. Bungie has some decisions to make about a recently popular shooter genre that it can do without (Battin, Extraction, etc.) and has settled on one with a steady tilt.
