CA Dem Says Republicans ‘Not Educated,’ ‘Susceptible to Conspiracy’

California Democrat Jay Chen, who is running for US Congress against Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA), has slammed Republican voters, calling them “illiterate” and “prone to conspiracy theories.”

Chen’s comments came during a Zoom call hosted by Indivisible Sonoma, a radical organization that claims to be “waging an existential struggle against American fascism perpetrated by the Republican Party.”

While discussing the Critical Race Theory (CRT), the California Democrat claimed there was a “broad attack on public education.”

Chen said:

You know, there’s just been this broad attack on public education. These accusations that, “oh, you know everything — when you teach American history, when you teach our history, like the Japanese-American internment, that’s critical race theory and that makes people feel bad for us they can teach.” You know, “our teachers indoctrinate our students.”

Chen then admitted that he would face attacks from those opposed to CRT:

You know, unfortunately I will be a recipient of some of these attacks. They will claim that because our school district taught Chinese, it meant we were trying to indoctrinate our students in Communism. That will literally be one of the attack points they will come up with.

Following his comments on CRT, Chen continued to slam Republican voters. Chen said:

But part of that broader attack is to delegitimize public education because, frankly, that improves its voter base. If you have people who are uneducated and prone to conspiracy theories, they will join the Republican Party.

Chen’s comments about Republican voters aren’t the first time the Democrat has come under fire for his off-the-cuff comments.

More than 20 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) advocacy groups protested outside Chen’s office over his “racist” comments about Rep. Steel.

Chen previously poked fun at Steel’s accent, saying, “You kind of need an interpreter to understand exactly what she’s saying.”
