The Northern Ireland policy says driving theory tests will be suspended until February 6, although affected tests will be moved to a temporary placeholder date. Drivers have 30 days to reschedule this temporary appointment: see www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/book-change-or-cancel-your-theory-test-online.
Certificates for passing the theory test that expired between March 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020 have been extended by one year, while those that expire before June 30, 2021 and have not already benefited from an extension have been extended by eight months have been extended. The extensions were automatically applied.
How about learning to drive privately, with a friend or family member?
Not in England and only in Scotland and Wales in the circumstances described above. Remember that in most areas police forces stop unnecessary driving, so make sure there is no alternative to monitoring a learner driver – a necessary driving means just that.
If there is no alternative to sharing the enclosed space of a car, the government recommends wearing face coverings, keeping windows open for ventilation (even if the air is noticeably chilly – you can wear a coat) and washing or disinfecting your hands often.
