Cecilia Coach raises $$ for exercise equipment

A Cecilia middle school coach has taken to social media to raise funds to buy exercise equipment for his students.
Health and physical education teacher Myles Melancon works at Cecilia Junior High School in the parish of St. Martin.
Melancon recently published a fundraiser on the Select donor siteentitled KEEPING THE BULLDOGS FIT and is asking for donations to purchase the equipment.
choose donor is an organization that, according to its website, “is committed to combating racial and socioeconomic injustice in school funding.”
The organization is dedicated to providing as much support as possible to teachers working in low-income communities and with students of color.
Donors Choose is very similar to GoFundMe but focuses on education, helping schools, students and educators in need.
Melancon submitted a project to the Donors Choose organization and asked for help with the training equipment.
You can hear the passion Melancon has for his students, his school and his position as an educator in the description of his project.
I am fortunate to teach wonderful 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys at CJHS. They are a high energy group that enjoys moving during their sports time… I have seen how physical activity allows students to “let off steam” and relieve stress in their lives. – Myles Melancon, DonorsChoose
Melancon goes on to say that he hopes to get students moving and having fun while doing so, and that this gear will help in that quest.
I want to get students to be as active as possible to increase their health and show them that they can have fun! These materials help create a dynamic environment conducive to physical activity. – Myles Melancon, DonorsChoose
Melancon believes that by having the right equipment, students “allow them to take control of their physical fitness” and learn valuable information that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
A list of items to purchase with the funds raised includes jump exercise boxes, kettlebell weight sets, hurdles, dodgeball sets, jump ball sets, motivational posters, and a few other items.
Melancon’s total request for the project is just over $1,300, and as of this writing, donations have met about half of the goal.
