Championship summary: Nathan Tella scores a hat-trick as Burnley continues ascent

Nathan Tella’s hat-trick saw Burnley continue their march back into the Premier League while the Championship leaders clinched victory in Hull.

After a 3-1 win at the MKM Stadium, Vincent Kompany’s side only need three wins to secure promotion.

An even first half ended with the visitors ahead when Tella scored before a volley and clever finish sealed victory. Ozan Tufan found a late consolation for Hull.

Sheffield United are second, 13 points adrift, after a 2-1 win at Sunderland.

A cool finish from Paris St. Germain loanee Edouard Michut – his first for the Black Cats – opened the scoring at the Stadium of Light.

United would rally, however, James McAtee headed home an equalizer in first-half injury time before Tommy Doyle’s free-kick sealed a comeback win after the hour.

Luton’s own hopes of promotion remain intact after the Hatters secured a 1-0 home win over midfield Bristol City.

It took the hosts just four minutes to score the game’s only goal, giving Rob Edwards and his Hatters three straight victories.

Carlton Morris headed home a fine cross from Cody Drameh to decide the fight in favor of Luton, just a point behind Middlesbrough in third place.

Blackburn moved up to fifth, two points behind Luton after beating 10-man Reading 2-1 at Ewood Park.

Ryan Hedges’ late shot proved crucial after Cesare Casadei’s first senior goal leveled out Ben Brereton Diaz’s opener, while Reading’s evening was enhanced by a late card for Mamadou Loum.

Huddersfield moved from the foot of the table as they frustrated former boss David Wagner and his play-off hope Norwich.

Gabriel Sara put the Canaries ahead but the Terriers, who were rarely dangerous, drew 1-1 through a Grant Hanley own goal, while Arsenal loanee Marquinhos was sent off late for Norwich.

Cardiff moved a point further ahead of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at home to West Brom when Sory Kaba’s equalizer nullified Daryl Dike’s opener for the Baggies.
