Dicker the kicker is back.
Earlier this week, 22-year-old Cameron Dicker never thought he’d be on an NFL roster, let alone bag a game-winning kick for the San Diego Chargers when time was up in Atlanta.
But that’s exactly what happened today after a shaky two-fumble game left the Chargers about 40 seconds ahead at the Falcons 40.
A few games later, Dicker the Kicker would kick a game-winning 37-yarder that would put the Chargers 5-3 in the season.
Dicker got the call from his agent earlier this week, telling him he needed to get to an airport as soon as possible.
What has he done? He was planning to go to Carrie Underwood’s concert in Austin, Texas.
After the game, he told the media that the second he got the call, he canceled the concert and took a flight:
“I was planning to go to a Carrie Underwood concert on Tuesday night, Monday night, or whatever, when I got the call.
I was like, ‘Oh, my agent is calling, that’s weird!’ He said, “How soon can you be at the airport?” I said an hour and a half, got on a plane and came out right away.
I didn’t think I would be here. It’s cool to have this opportunity to do my thing… it’s the first time I’ve been lifted up like that, so it’s cool.”
And believe it or not, it’s not his first game-winning kick of the season.
Dicker came on in Week 5 with a 23-yard kick to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 20-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals and even earned him the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week title.
Unfortunately, he was cut right after that game.
But hey, not bad for two NFL starts.
Maybe Carrie will set him up for her next show in San Diego.
