Charges brought after man injured in stolen vehicle crash in Vaughan

York Regional Police have charged a suspect with multiple offenses and are looking for witnesses after a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Vaughan left a 39-year-old man with life-changing injuries.

Police were called to a collision at the intersection with the highway at 4:10 a.m. Friday. 7 and Hwy. 27

A suspect was traveling eastbound on the highway in a black 2023 Jeep Wrangler. 7 when he collided with a Dodge Caravan with four occupants traveling north on the highway. 27
The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
A male victim from the Dodge Caravan was hospitalized in critical condition with life-changing injuries.
The other three occupants suffered minor injuries.

With the help of the K9 unit, a suspect was located nearby and arrested.
According to police, the Jeep Wrangler was stolen in Toronto on May 15, 2023.
Lovepreet Gharu, 24, of no fixed address, is charged with dangerous surgery resulting in bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, possession of criminally acquired property valued in excess of $5,000, operating a mode of transportation during the ban, violating probation and charged with failure to comply with a court release order, possession of felony property less than $5,000, and unlawful possession of a master key.
