Kerridge praised his wife, sculptor Beth Cullen Kerridge, for her dedication to her art and for “never giving up her dream” (Aaron Chown/PA).

Featuring marble and bronze sculptures, the exhibition celebrates “how amazing people are, how much we do, and symbolizes what feels monotonous, but ultimately how strong and awesome people can be, despite the throws of everyday life,” according to the Gallery 8 website.

Cullen Kerridge said the inspiration for her new solo sculpture show is simply “how brilliant women are”.

“My whole life has been about making stuff, I can’t help but get my hands dirty,” she told the PA news agency at the photocall for the exhibition.

“It’s a way of life with my family, so I’ve always done it.”

She said of the exhibition: “It’s a couple of stories about where I am in my life as a mother, wife and worker doing way too many things.

“I’m sure most moms would agree that this is a crazy thing, so I’m just telling the story.

“(We) bend over backwards, polish things, almost robotically in a way, but at least we’re trying to make the world a little bit nicer.”

Kerridge told the PA that his wife “has always been very good at not caring what other people think”.

“It’s so nice to see Beth growing and her work growing and we’re in a position where Beth is able to show her work in a gallery like this,” he said.

“I’m super proud of all the hard work, all the effort, all the dedication she has put in over the years to keep growing, pushing and never giving up on her dream.

“As an artist, it’s difficult not just to run a business but to make art that never compromises to really follow your soul and your heart.

“Beth has always been very good at not caring what other people think.”

Femella is open to the public at Gallery 8 from November 8th to 12th.
