Chelsea agree with club on €100m transfer of 22-year-old striker: reports

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Mykhailo Mudryk, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Their €100m offer was accepted by the Ukrainian club. Arsenal’s offer remains at €95m plus surcharges, which is below Shakhtar’s valuation of the player.

Mudryk’s desire is to join Arsenal for whom he has been a long-term transfer target. Chelsea’s recent entry into the transfer race has sparked a bidding war between the two teams, which the Blues have won for the time being.

However, you still need to make a personal agreement with the player. It remains to be seen if the 22-year-old winger will agree to a move to arch-rivals Arsenal.

Chelsea have already made four signings this winter. David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and Joao Felix (on loan) have all arrived in west London.

It seems the quartet’s signing wasn’t enough to whet owner Todd Boehly’s appetite in January. Felix’s loan spell got off to the worst possible start after being sent off for a reckless tackle in his side’s 2-1 defeat by Fulham on 13 January.

They also have Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as players who can downplay the crosses. However, Ziyech and Pulisic are not trusted by manager Graham Potter and Mount is mostly used in midfield.

The former has 430 minutes of club football in all competitions this season, while the USA international has only played eight games in that span.

Aubameyang, on the other hand, played in the middle in attack. But he has recently fallen out of favor at Chelsea, starting in just one of their last seven league games. Therefore, they could use the services of Mudryk immediately in advance.

Chelsea appear to have edged out Arsenal in two key areas with Mudryk’s offer

A report by Athletic mentions that Shakhtar Donetsk appreciates the quality of the add-ons offered and the projected speed of payments by the potential applicant.

This would of course be complemented by the belief that Chelsea have offered more than Arsenal overall, including add-ons. The former have reportedly offered €70m up front with €30m in add-ons.

It was also mentioned that Mudryk could be ready to join the west London team. In that case, the deal would take the Blues’ reported expenses this season to €455m, including Felix’s loan fee with surcharges (h/t Transfermarkt).

Mudryk, a junior product of the Shakhtar Academy, has scored ten goals and provided eight assists in 18 club games in all competitions this season.
