Chelsea are in talks to buy a stake in Strasbourg but face a competing bid for a French club

Helsea remain in talks to buy a stake in Ligue 1 club Strasbourg but face competition when it comes to building a multi-club network.
The Blues see the Alsace team as an important opportunity to seize but face competition from an unnamed American buyer.
Strasbourg, currently 14th in France’s top flight, would be used to send young talent into development while giving Chelsea a foothold in a key market.
The deal would allow the Blues to sign young players from the European Union under their umbrella to avoid post-Brexit regulations, while the prospect of accessing the pool of young talent in France is also attractive.
Chelsea have previously tried to buy stakes in Lyon, Sochaux and Bordeaux but each time their offers have been rejected.
The Boehly-Clearlake regime wants to buy clubs in Portugal, Belgium and Brazil to compete with clubs like Manchester City who have built similar networks.
Portimonense in Portugal and Santos in Brazil are among the sides who have also repulsed the west Londoners’ advances.
