Chelsea FC injury update: Reece James, Romeo Lavia and Mykhailo Mudryk latest news and return dates

That seems to have been the case for over a year, with Chelsea’s injury problems mounting.
Mauricio Pochettino has had a mixed start to his first games as Blues manager and, like Graham Potter and Frank Lampard before him, the Argentinean remains without a few key players.
Summer newcomers Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku are yet to kick an angry ball, while Reece James has not played since the season’s opening game.
With that in mind, here’s a look at Chelsea’s recent injuries…
Mykhailo Mudryk
Although Mudryk is yet to find success as a Chelsea player, his absence would put an even greater strain on Pochettino’s squad.
So there was concern when the winger was injured in Ukraine’s draw with England.
However, Mudryk is back in training with his national team and could be in the running for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.
Possible return date: Sunday September 17, 2023 against Bournemouth
Reece James
Pochettino was keen to point out that club captain James would be out for just a few weeks following the hamstring injury he sustained against Liverpool.
There is hope that the defender will be back in action after the international break, although it is unclear if he will be fit to face the Cherries.
Possible return date: September 2023
Romeo Lavia
Summer new signing Lavia wasn’t able to get started right away and Standard sport believes an agreement has been reached with the Belgium national team not to call him up for their games during the break.
While the midfielder works on his fitness, his return for the Bournemouth game immediately after the break remains in question.

The defender is back in training after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season before a ball was kicked.
While that’s a boost, the nature of the problem certainly means Badiashile won’t be pushed back.
Possible return date: October 2023
Armando Broja
Pochettino has spoken highly of the striker while Broja is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury in his knee.
Although Broja is back in training to some extent, it’s extremely unlikely he’ll be around for much longer.
Possible return date: October 2023
Carney Chukwuemeka
The youngster was a regular starter at the start of the season but picked up a knee injury that required surgery shortly after scoring his first Blues goal against West Ham last month.
He is now expected to be out of action until at least October.
Possible return date: October 2023
Trevoh Chalobah
There has been little clarity about Chalobah’s recovery from a hamstring injury other than the Blues describing him as “remaining in rehabilitation programs.”
Even if he is fit, the academy graduate should not play regularly in the first team.

It will be fascinating to see what Nkunku’s arrival means for this Chelsea team, even if it’s still a while away.
The Frenchman required surgery for a knee problem he picked up in pre-season and ahead of the Nottingham Forest defeat Chelsea said he was still in the “early stages” of his recovery.
A possible return after the international break in November seems the most likely outcome at the moment.
Possible return date: November 2023
Wesley Fofana
It seems unlikely that £75m defender Wesley Fofana will play at all this season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Possible return date: Summer 2024
