Chelsea put €13 million price tag on Barcelona target- Reports

Chelsea could reportedly be open to the possibility of selling Barcelona target Cesar Azpilicueta if the Catalan club meet their asking price for the Spaniard.

According to Diario Sport, the Blues value Azpilicueta, who has informed club management of his desire to leave west London this summer, at around €13m.

Cesar Azpilicueta joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2012 for just €8m. He has played 476 games for the Blues and has arguably established himself as a club legend. He has helped them win two Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, one EFL Cup, one Champions League, two Europa Leagues and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite Azpilicueta making 47 appearances in all competitions for Thomas Tuchel’s side last season and being a key member of the club’s starting XI, Azpilicueta is keen to leave Chelsea this summer.

He is believed to have told Tuchel he is ‘ready to submit a transfer request’ to force a move. The 32-year-old had hoped he would be allowed to leave for free due to his incredible service to the club but is now hoping he can ‘go for a small fee’.

Barcelona are keen to sign some statements this summer to increase their chances of fighting for the La Liga title next season and continue to improve under Xavi. The Spaniard has managed to reverse the club’s fortunes after the dismal start to the 2021/22 season and seems keen on building a dynasty at the Camp Nou.

However, the Catalan giants lack the funds to sign some of their top transfer targets and could therefore be forced to focus on the free agent market or try to sign players for reduced fees.

The La Liga giants will be keen to add some experience to a youthful looking squad. Azpilicueta, a full-back who can also play as a centre-back, could prove to be a replacement for 35-year-old defender Gerard Pique, who has entered the twilight phase of his career.

Thomas Tuchel reportedly has no desire to part ways with Cesar Azpilicueta as Antonio Ruidger and Andreas Christensen will leave the club on June 30 after their respective contracts expire.

The German is therefore keen to keep the Spanish defender whose versatility, experience and leadership have been a huge asset to the club on the pitch and in the dressing room.

In addition, Chelsea have a number of young defenders in their squad including Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Malang Sarr and Ben Chilwell who will benefit from Azpiliceuta’s advice and guidance.

Tuchel could therefore be interested in persuading the 32-year-old to stay at Stamford Bridge. This could affect Barcelona’s chances of signing Cesar Azpilicueta.
