Chelsea relies on Kante Boost

N’Golo Kante could make his first appearance since the second week of the season tonight.

The midfielder has been out of action since August with a hamstring injury but Blues boss Graham Potter has confirmed he could potentially rejoin the squad against Everton.

When asked if Kante could perform at Stamford Bridge, Potter said: “[He has a] Chance to get into the squad. It’s the first time so it’s fantastic, great.

“There will be managers before me who have praised N’Golo very highly for being a top-top player. We miss him very much. We missed him very much. That’s not to say the other players didn’t give their all, because they did.

“But N’Golo Kante is N’Golo Kante. He’s a top player. So it’s great for us that he’s back. We have to remember that he had a long injury.”

Chelsea are set to return to the Club World Cup

FIFA has announced the qualification criteria for the revamped Club World Cup 2025 and all but confirmed Chelsea’s participation in the tournament.

The Blues will take part in the new 32-team format after winning the Champions League in 2021.

Chelsea will join Real Madrid, who won it in 2022, in the event, which will feature winners until 2024.

Other European teams are selected via the club ranking, also known as the coefficient ranking, in which Manchester City could take part even without a Champions League win.

Meanwhile, champions from other equivalent tournaments such as the African Champions League and Copa Libertadores in South America are also qualifying for FIFA’s revamped club tournament.
