Chet Hanks responds to Eric Andre calling him ’emotionally disturbed’

Chet Hanks has hit back at Eric André, who recently accused him of “breaking up” the crew during a guest appearance on his show.

The 39-year-old comic book host The Eric Andre Show, an absurdist unscripted sketch program parodying late-night talk shows. It features interviews with celebrities and celebrity impersonators, interspersed with chaotic man in the street-type sections.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, André recalled Hanks, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, allegedly engaging in “dangerous” behavior on the set of the Adult Swim series.

Shortly after the interview was published (March 14), Hanks responded to André, labeling him “emotionally disturbed.”

“Had no idea you were so ap***y,” Hanks wrote, tagging him on an Instagram story.

Hanks then followed up with another video sharing his side of the story.

“So Eric André invites me to his show. I had never seen it before so I started watching episodes. I see it’s on some weird, fancy troll s***, so I’m like, ‘Okay, cool, I’m going to adjust that energy,'” he said.

“At one point he has a guy come and jump on stage on a dirt bike. Well, he must not have known I ride dirt bikes because I picked that crap and started riding it around the set.

“Everybody’s like, ‘No, no, no, don’t do that. You could get hurt!’ I’m like, ‘Chill, I just did a little wheelie.’ I parked the bike. Now he wants to come out and talk shit about me? You just mustn’t have liked that I outshone you on your own damn show,” Hanks added.

“There are a lot of fucking weirdos in Hollywood, but I didn’t think you were one of them,” he continued. “I thought you were funny and cool, but turns out you’re just plain crazy.”

The Independent has asked André’s representative for comment.

In addition to Hanks, Tom and Rita also share Colin, 45, Elizabeth, 40, and Truman, 27.

Hanks has struggled with substance abuse in the past, went to rehab multiple times and sobered up in 2018.

During a November 2022 interview, he revealed that his parents had sent him to a wilderness program for “troubled teenagers.”

Hanks drew criticism for a series of outlandish statements in 2021, including saying the world would experience a “white boy summer” this year.
