Christina Applegate is heading to her first awards ceremony since her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, and she’s feeling all the emotions.
the dead to me star is nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award 2023. The 51-year-old took to social media to express her nervousness and gratitude for attending her first awards ceremony since 2019.
“So this Sunday will be the first awards show I’ve been to since 2019. And the first since MS. NERVOUS! But I’m grateful to @CriticsChoice for including me,” she tweeted.
Applegate was encouraged by her Hollywood peers.
“You can do it. Don’t be nervous. Everyone is cheering for you!!!” tweeted actor Damon Gonzalez.
“Can’t wait to say hello on Sunday!” replied Critics’ Choice creator, producer and board member Shawn Edwards.

“A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS,” she wrote. “It was a strange journey. But I’ve had enough support from people that I know who also has this disease. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, there is a long way to go. Unless a ** hole blocks it. “
She continued, “As one of my friends with MS said, ‘We’re waking up and taking the necessary action.’ And I do. So now I’m asking for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thanks.”
In December 2022, Applegate was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show. When asked what it’s like living with MS, Applegate joked, “Can I say it sucks?”
The Netflix star also shared details about her condition.
“There are four different types of MS, so they’re not all the same,” she continued. “Everyone has different symptoms, everyone has different experiences with it. Shooting the show was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life because I was diagnosed while filming. I didn’t know what was happening to me.”

“I freaked out until someone said, ‘You need an MRI.’ And then one Monday after work I found out I had MS, you know, a disease I’ll have for the rest of my life,” Applegate recalled.
