Colt’s wall is back.
After two long years since the release of his 2020 Western Swing & Waltz and other powerful songs Project, and he’s been playing a few unreleased tunes and covers here and there at live shows, he released two new surprise songs this morning.
He teased that something was coming a few weeks ago he shared a photo of himself working in the studio and now we have at least a little bit about what he was doing there.
After mostly living the cowboy dream in Canada, living as a rancher and living life away from music, he found some time to do a cover of Cowboy Jack Clement’s “Let’s All Help the Cowboys (Sing the Blues)” as well as a Original recorded tune “Cypress Hills and the Big Country”.
A solo author of Colter’s, Cypress Hills and the Big Country sheds light on his home country of southwest Saskatchewan, Canada.
He describes the expansive imagery of his home on the ranch while celebrating life on the prairie and all the beauty that comes with “crouching under all your trials and troubles for a while, like a pronghorn under a tightrope. ”
“Let’s All Help the Cowboys (Sing the Blues)” is a cover of a song originally written by Jack Clement and made extremely popular by Mr. Waylon Jennings when he included it in his iconic 1975 number one dream my dreams Album. It’s hard to do Waylon justice, but Colter nailed it and I can’t get enough of it.
Colter’s gritty, rich vocals also sound absolutely superb on both tracks, as usual, and the fact that this likely portends more new music to come is the best news I’ve heard all week.
This Wednesday just got a whole lot better… do yourself a favor and check out the new tunes:
