Comedy stars perform at Sunderland Fire Station
Comedians from the UK and beyond will take to the stage at Sunderland Fire Station in a comedy program starting this month (Saturday).
Tom Stade
First up is legendary Canadian comedy superstar Tom Stade, who brings his Natural Born Killer tour to Wearside on Sunday September 24th.
His new show has something for everyone – iGens, Millennials, Baby Boomers, Generation X and everyone beyond. Natural Born Killer plays with the complexities of our ever-changing world, with Tom reflecting on progressiveness, pronouns, 27 years of marriage, and adult offspring who refuse to respect him.

Tamsin Austin, Venue Director at The Fire Station, said: “Tom is a master of his craft and has delighted audiences across the UK for the last two decades.” He is one of the most captivating, visceral and mischievous stand-up performers to come out there is, and I’m sure it will be hugely popular with a North East audience. Josie Long
Less than a week later (Thursday September 28th), one of Britain’s best-known comedians, Josie Long, will perform her Re-Enchantment show at the fire station.
Josie has had several successful comedy shows on BBC Radio and is a regular guest on BBC TV and Channel 4 comedy shows. She began performing as a stand-up artist at the age of 14 and won the BBC New Comedy Awards at the age of 17. She has been nominated three times for the Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Awards for Best Show and also helped write (and starred in) the hit Channel 4 series Skins.

Her latest tour was inspired by a quote from feminist author Lola Olufemi, who said: “After defeat, a renewed enchantment is necessary.” Marked with compassion and short political rants, the show explores change, time, passion and relocation bring with you to Scotland.

Rhys James
Rhys James will be performing locally on Saturday October 7 as the Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo regular brings his show Spilled Milk to Sunderland.
Rhys, who is behind two popular podcasts Early Work and Fit & Proper, began his stand-up career as a student at Manchester University. His previous tour, Snitch, sold out over 70 times nationwide and since then he has released a third Radio 4 series, starred in The Great American Joke Off and was bungee-corded by Micah Richards on Sky’s A League of Theirs the air thrown own.

Jimeoin
Later in October (20th), Irish master of merriment Jimeoin will take to the Fire Station stage with his irrepressible show The Craic.
The multi-award-winning comedian has a cheeky, no-nonsense approach to comedy that has earned him a loyal fan base across the UK, Europe, the US and his adopted home of Australia.

It was in Oz that Jimeoin first gained notoriety with his own TV show. He came to the attention of the British public between 2005 and 2008 when he undertook a tour of Australia’s outback and major cities, which was filmed for the documentary Jimeon Down Under.
His first appearance was at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1993 and he hasn’t missed a year there since.
UK TV appearances have included Sunday Night at the Palladium, Live at The Apollo, The Royal Variety Performance, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Dave’s One Night Stand.

Axel Blake
A week later, on Friday October 27th, Britain’s Got Talent winner Axel Blake will roll into town as part of his In Style tour.
Axel’s tour follows a fantastic performance at the Royal Variety Show last year. The Dunstable-born comedian’s witty charm and observational comedy have propelled him into the top echelon of British comedians and his Wearside gig will come after sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Pete Firman
Pete Firman is the final artist on The Fire Station’s roster and will be performing at the venue with his TrikTok show on Thursday, November 9th.
With more than 175 million online views and countless TV appearances, Pete has established himself as the UK’s top comedy magician. His TV credits include Tonight at the London Palladium, The Next Great Magician, BBC1’s The Magicians, The John Bishop Show and The Sarah Millican Television Programme.
His first television appearance was on Channel 5’s groundbreaking series Monkey Magic. He has also written a beginner’s guide to magic tricks and produced a BBC Radio 4 documentary called Pete Firman’s World of Magic.
His live performances have taken him all over the world and his one-man shows entertained sell-out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe and on several UK tours for ten years running.
He has been invited to perform at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and London’s home of mystery, The Magic Circle.
